Travel memories and faraway friends

This week I had a drink with a friend I met exactly three years ago in New Zealand, at a festival called Kiwiburn that changed my life completely. He happened to be around Valencia and came into town for the night. It was such a sweet and spontaneous surprise! I already had some plans, but there was no way I wasn’t going to see him. So after my sound healing session I floated into the cafe and went on a journey back to NZ through stories and memories.

What a treasure! This is the thing with travel friends I guess, that you will always end up seeing each other again, one way or the other. The timing is when you least expect it and the place is the biggest question mark. But it always works out, it really does. That’s why I have grown pretty good at saying bye when travelling and meeting friends. I just know I’ll see them again in life.

Sometimes faraway friendships continue through letters. Written love notes and adventure stories sent from one side of the globe to the other. Whenever I open those envelopes, or when I see someone again after many years, it takes me right back to that time and place where we met. You know I love that stuff. Nostalgia!

So even though I’m living the most settled down life I’ve lived in a long time and I’m slowly growing roots in Spanish ground, I keep travelling back to voyages near and far. Through memories, words, pictures and long conversations with friends I met in other lands and at different stages in life. Valencia has been so good for that. Sometimes this place feels like a magnet for travellers, which works out perfectly. Maybe that’s why I feel so at home here.
